Social Media is big part of The Graphics Guy’s Marketing Strategy
Robert Hazelrigg ~ The Graphics Guy of West Long Branch, NJ talks about his experience with Social Media.
In 2007 one of the clients I create graphic design for asked me to create a profile for them on Facebook. Back then there weren’t any business fan pages on Facebook. Facebook was barely heard of, and had yet to hit critical mass.
At that time I was creating 6-7 news paper ads for them per week in all of the major markets. (New York Post, Miami Herald, Chicago Tribune, Boston Herald, Washington Globe… etc.) I was designing big full page ads, in big markets for big popular newspapers. It was at this time we started placing coupon in the social pages we had. The results was incredible. Very rapidly we saw tons of fan engagement, and it wasn’t long before most of the store coupons that were coming into the store were coming from Facebook.
It wasn’t long after seeing the success I was able to achieve for them I decided to create a profile for myself and upload parts of my profile. Much like my client I started seeing jobs, referrals, and leads coming in from Facebook. Today I have 15,000+ fans on my fan page, 3,000+ connections on LinkedIn, and a few hundred on Twitter. Social Media is an important part of my business’s marketing package and it can be for your business as well.
My most frequently as questions when it comes to social media are:
Q: “Should my business be on Twitter or Linked In?”
A: Yes! You should be everywhere where your customers want to engage you. I have never personally gotten a project lead from Twitter, but I am there and have been since 2008. I’ve also been on LinkedIn since 2003(?) and I do get leads there, but not nearly as many as I do from Facebook. I’m not saying one is better then the other it really depends on how you use the tool and if your audience is willing to engage you there. Turns out Twitter just isn’t the tool for me.
Q: “How do I get more followers?”
A: Be yourself, have fun, don’t sell yourself. People respond to honesty. That’s it. It’s not rocket science. It’s also not for everyone. If you can’t spend time in the social space don’t. Moreover, Don’t pay someone to be you. It never works. You can pay someone (like The Graphics Guy of West Long Branch, NJ) to help set up your business fan page, and monitor your ad campaigns.
