A Legacy on Every Corner: The Township of Ocean Logo Comes to Life

There are moments in a designer’s life that go far beyond client work, deadlines, or deliverables. Some moments feel personal — deeply personal — because they connect generations, honor history, and become part of the everyday landscape of a community you love.

For Robert Hazelrigg, The Graphics Guy, seeing the Township of Ocean logo displayed on every street sign throughout town — from Freehold to Delaware Avenue — is one of those moments.

A Design Rooted in Family History

The story of the Township of Ocean logo begins long before the modern redesign. In the early 1970s, Robert’s father created the original emblem — a symbol meant to represent the character, pride, and identity of the community. It was a piece of design that stood the test of time, becoming instantly recognizable to residents for decades.

Forty years later, the township approached Robert with an honor few designers ever experience: to redesign the very logo his father created.

It was a full‑circle moment — a chance to preserve the spirit of the original while giving it a fresh, modern identity that could carry Ocean Township forward for another generation.

A Daily Reminder of Legacy and Community

Now, every time Robert drives through town, he sees that logo proudly displayed on street signs across Ocean Township. It’s more than branding. It’s more than municipal signage.

It’s a reminder of his father’s craftsmanship. It’s a reflection of his own dedication to the community. It’s a symbol of continuity — a family legacy woven into the fabric of Ocean Township.

And yes, it brings him tremendous joy.

Design That Lives Beyond the Studio

Most designers hope their work will be seen, appreciated, and remembered. But few get to experience their work becoming part of the physical landscape — something residents pass every day, something children grow up seeing, something that quietly reinforces a sense of place.

For Robert Hazelrigg, seeing the Township of Ocean logo on every street sign is a daily reminder that design has the power to connect generations, strengthen identity, and leave a lasting mark on the community he proudly calls home.
